Hugo J. Mojica
Active Community Leader
Hugo was born in Nicaragua and raised in the Near Northside part of Houston. He graduated from Jeff Davis High School (renamed Northside High School) in the top 5% of his class. Through hard work and perseverance, Hugo became the first in his family to graduate from college earning a Bachelor of Science in Political Science from the University of Houston.

​After working several years for various public officials, he decided to go back to school and earned a Master's degree in Public Administration from Florida International University and a Master of Arts from the University of Miami. Hugo has over 16 years of experience working for local, state and federal level elected officials and non-profit organizations. 
​Hugo lives by Gandhi's motto of  "being the change you want to see in the world," that is why he is very active in the community.

​Hugo's engagement with community-based initiatives and organizations includes founding the Student Vote Project to increase the number of college age voters to participate in elections. He holds leadership roles in LULAC, Galleria River Oaks Rotary Club and Parents for Public Schools.

Currently, he works for the Houston Astros as a Community Relations and Astros Foundation Coordinator.

    Houston Astros Community Relations Coordinator
    Duties include managing the Share2Care program, volunteer coordination and community affairs. To date, successfully managed a team of sellers that have sold over $2.7 million in raffle tickets where half of the proceeds go to the winner and the other half to the Astros Foundation. The Astros Foundation is the official 501(c)3 team charity of the Houston Astros. We seek to harness the passion of baseball fans to support youth and softball programs serving at risk children and teens. The cornerstone initiatives include the Community Leaders program, the Astros Urban Youth Academy and the Astros RBI Program (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities).

    Executive Director, Hispanic Health Coalition
    Responsible for the overall operations of the Coalition that included the implementation of its strategic plan and goals set by the Board of Directors, as well as supervising the Coalition staff and volunteers; overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Coalition’s staff, programs, expansion and fulfillment of its mission; major areas of responsibility include: leadership - represent the Coalition at local and regional events related to the mission, strategic plan and goals; management & planning – develop and implement a process of quality improvement that includes, but not limited to program evaluation and assessment of the Coalition’s impact in the community; operations & record keeping – oversee the day-to-day operations of the Coalition and the implementation of signatures programs and events; communications & marketing – deepen and refine all aspects of communities with the goal of creating a stronger brand; and fundraising – increase revenue generating and fundraising strategies to support existing program operations and expansion plans.

    Political Consultant
    Analyze district/precinct-level voting histories and develop voter contact strategy; advise on budgeting and fundraising strategies; develop GOTV (get out the vote) and absentee-balloting strategy; advise on negative information handling/crisis management; political crisis management; advise on political mail strategy; message development/content development; voter contact data; event planning, financial reporting and volunteer management.
